Sometimes of course you find exactly the RIGHT thing to listen to.
Beautiful woman, beautiful song
There are times, like this evening, when I discover songs like this performed in their original context, and I lose my breath for a moment. from barbara on youtube, I have moved onto a half hour documentary in three parts about Baby Dee.
Rare talent.
There is sublime beauty in psychotic genius.
This kind of song and performance makes me seriously reconsider where I have turned off the road. My collection of music is banal, empty, trite - without the chanson.
As with my discovery of Eva Demarcyzk, I feel a new wave coming in.
But is it new? My first liaison with Juliette Greco (and Barbara in fact) came in 1996 when "Absinthe" was released.
Marc Almond has so much to answer for.
Suggests that may be one of the most significant albums ever.
What fascinates me is how I can go from Cathedral Oceans to L'Aigle Noir via The Pleasure Principle and still find common links.
Sigh...
We opened the Old Building from 10 till 3 today to receive gifts from the parish, following our Giving in Grace campaign. The door-to-door "begging letter" has so far brought in over £700, and today we received another £100 or so from the handful of people who came by.
A disappointing turnout really, but then we didn't really push it very well once we dropped the letters. I think a couple of posters and some follow up publicity could have helped. I only managed to put in a one hour shift after lunch and welcomed two visitors...
Did give me a good opportunity though once again to enjoy the quiet splendour of Cathedral Oceans on the PA, even if I didn't manage to get the DVD playing . Absolutely superb in this environment.
Made a start earlier in the week on the publicity for the 140th by simply putting a list together of all the events we have planned. One of the highlights is the Bob Pearce concert on 20th September, and already the photos for the poster/invitation have come in. I want to put a flyer together about the church to pass around to people, particularly members of the newly formed SHAPe organisation "Southampton Heritage And Arts People". All involved in this and some of my council contacts will be invited to the Bob Pearce evening, which we intend to use primarily as a showcase for the project.
Lots of potential invitees.
But for now I must wash up
