I feel encouraged.
Tonight's evening session to discuss content for the new church website went well enough. I don't think my nervous bumbling was too distracting, and we came away with a good framework to work with.
The post-it idea was inspired. Thanks Paul! Everyone in the room (OK, only seven people) sat and listened for half an hour while I established with a Q and A session why the church feels it even needs a website, then defined the relationships between Appearance, Content, Navigation and Relevance. We then had fifteen minutes or so writing content ideas onto post-its which I invited everyone to stick up on the flipchart.
Then we sat down again and grouped these into the five (or was it six??) main headings that will form the basic navigation headers:
Church
(services, witness, Alpha etc - scripture passages, prayers, mission statement)
Buildings
(history, foundation, organ, personal anecdotes)
People
(Kid's page, wardens, personal testimonials, musicians)
Community
(events, hall hire, HELP projects)
Mission
(outreach, projects we support, parish links)
It's really coming together and feels SO good inspiring people.
